A treasured gift
I thought all day about our dinner plans. I couldn't wait to tell her. She was my best friend and keeping this from her until we could meet face to face had been more difficult than I had imagined. I was beaming when I saw her waiting in the restaurant. She must have known something was going on but she never let on if she did.
I finally told her after we ordered our food. Kevin and I were getting married! I was so happy. After so many years of living together I had pretty much given up on getting married and settling down. But it was going to happen and all I knew is that Christine had to be my maid of honour. I needed her to be there with me every step of the way in organising this wedding. She was closer to me than a sister.
The day of the wedding soon came around and everything was perfect. We opened our gifts and found that our friends and family had been very generous and thoughtful. But the one gift that stands out the most is the one Christine gave us. I recall taking the personalised wine out of the beautiful wrapping. The label had our names on it with the date of our marriage. It was on a beautiful label that had a picture of us on it. I knew this was a gift she must have chosen with great care and thought and it brought a smile to my face. It was amazing and we were both thrilled. We knew this would be a gift to treasure.
We are now celebrating our wedding anniversary and that personalised wine still has its rightful place on our mantle. The choice of wine was very befitting and I could tell that when she ordered the personalised wine that she had also decided what wine the beautiful label would be going on. There were so many times we thought about opening the wine but it was such a treasured gift that somehow we felt it would spoil its uniqueness for us. So we kept it in its rightful place of honour to mark our special day.
My parents are going to be celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary soon and we have decided to get them a bottle of personalised wine as we know how much ours has meant to us. I was happy to find the selection of wines was top quality and the company even offered champagne for those special occasions. We choose a lovely bottle of Merlot for the personalised wine and ordered a label that included a picture of my parents on their wedding day. We wrapped the bottle in some beautiful gold foil with a sparkling ribbon befitting such a lovely gift. I look forward to the look on my parents face when they open their personalised wine and hope it brings the same smile to their faces that it did to ours over a year ago.
