Grabbing a Hold on Technology

As technology becomes more and more advanced, the things that we once took for being commonplace gradually start being replaced with ‘the next best thing’. There are many examples of this, but one that particularly stands out is the evolution of video, or VHS, to DVD.

Back in the 1990s, it was quite normal to go into your local entertainment shop and browse the latest films out on video. From Disney to Warner Bros, and from horror films to comedy flicks, there were, and still are, a large range to choose from. Many young adults these days still fondly remember their old kids films, and a lot still have the videos to watch.

However, if you don’t own a video player, there could be a problem. Joint DVD and video combination units are available to buy, but no new videos are bought out and it certainly seems as if DVDs have taken over, as well as the units needed to view them. There is a solution to this problem, other than buying a new video player (or a second hand one). This is the Video Grabber. If you can borrow a video player from someone, you can use this. The handy cable connects to your computer via USB port, and transfers all your old videos onto your computer as either an AVI/MP4 or MPEG 1/2/4 file. To do this, the Video Grabber converts the images to digital files from the original analogue. Compatible with all S-Video applications, it is plug and play and is very easy to use.

Bear in mind when looking at using the Video Grabber that it must be used with Windows XP as a minimum requirement, and the PC itself will need to have a CD/DVD writer disk drive if you want to then burn the files onto a DVD disk. The Video Grabber itself usually comes with the required software included, as well as a USB extension cable in case it is needed to stretch between the video player and the computer. Also, the hard drive of the PC will need to be big enough to hold the files, at least temporarily until they can be burnt onto DVD.

As Christmas is drawing nearer, we’ll all start looking at what presents to buy people, and it may be that the Video Grabber is an ideal gift for someone who has all their old videos but no way of watching them. If you can lend them a VCR, or even record their films yourself, what could be a better present than giving them all their old movies back? Also, as the files are stored on a PC hard drive, provided it can store all the files without them slowing the computer down, if the DVD becomes damaged in any way, a new one can be burnt with minimal hassle.

Likewise, the Video Grabber will also make a great present to yourself. Make sure you shop around to get the best deal for your money, and remember to keep it a secret if it’s for someone else’s gift this year.
