The perfect wedding gift
I was waiting at the restaurant patiently. I was wondering what all the fuss was about and why she had needed to see me so urgently. We had been best friends for 20 years and I knew everything about her, at least I thought I did. When she arrived she was beaming from ear to ear and I could tell she was bursting to tell me something. She looked like a child on Christmas morning and the anticipation of what she wanted to say was driving me crazy.
It felt like a lifetime of small talk while we looked at the menu and then ordered. I finally said “spit it out Abi”. She smiled and grabbed my hand and told me that she was going to be getting married! I was shocked. After all her and Kevin had been living together for five years and everyone had given up on the idea that they would ever commit to marriage. She then asked if I would be her maid of honour. I happily accepted.
In the weeks that led up to the wedding I thought very hard about what I could give as a wedding present. It was so difficult as they already had their home set up and had great jobs and lots of money so didn't really want for much that I could think of. I couldn't wait to watch them open my gift and hoped the personalised wine would bring a smile to their faces. Later that evening when they opened my gift I saw a look in Abi's eye that told me the personalised wine had indeed been the perfect choice of gift.
Tomorrow Abi and Kevin will celebrate their wedding anniversary and that personalised wine still holds it special place on their mantle. It has never been opened and I doubt it ever will. They look at it as a perfect memento of their sacred and loving union. This is a gift I would definitely recommend.
